Start with an inventory
List known property, bank relationships, investments and outstanding liabilities. Mark the source of each item and any uncertainty. An inventory is an organising tool, not a determination of legal entitlement.
Understand each institution’s requirements
Banks, registrars and land authorities can ask for different documents. A death certificate, nomination, will or family record may be relevant, but the required legal process depends on the asset and circumstances.
Seek independent succession advice
An advocate can explain applicable succession rules and whether probate, a succession certificate or another process is needed. Do not assume a nominee automatically inherits beneficial ownership. Avoid distributing assets before rights and obligations are understood.
